2013 Queer Women of Color Film Festival – Call for Films
Press release
QWOCMAP invites queer women of color, gender nonconforming and transgender people of color to submit films to our 9th annual Queer Women of Color Film Festival, June 14-16, 2013 in San Francisco. The Queer Women of Color Film Festival seeks films of any genre, any subject and any length that are made by queer women of color, gender nonconforming or transgender people of color from any where in the world.
The deadline is December 31, 2012.
Festival Focus: SWANA/AMEMSA
Our 9th annual Festival Focus will turn its lens on films made by queer women of color, gender nonconforming or transgender people of color filmmakers who are South West Asian, North African/Arab, Middle Eastern, Muslim, and South Asian (SWANA/AMEMSA).
At a time when the hope and warmth of the Arab Spring seems distant in the light of oppression and conflict from Gaza to Syria. When the vilification, hatred, and oppression toward SWANA/AMEMSA communities continues to increase to a high pitch across the U.S. When SWANA/AMEMSA communities are at the center of misunderstanding, misrepresentation and misidentification.
Then it is time to hear authentic stories and powerful voices. It is time to see the visions of queer women of color, gender nonconforming and transgender people of color who are SWANA/AMEMSA.
The Queer Women of Color Film Festival especially invites films that fit our Festival Focus.
