40th Anniversary Lesbian Herstory Archives Art Benefit

To inaugurate the Lesbian Herstory Archive’s year-long 40th anniversary celebration, we are holding an Art Benefit in the fall of 2013 at Alexander Gray Associates in Chelsea, NY.

We invite all interested artists who identify as lesbians and have not already been invited to participate to apply for one of the open call spots.

This year the Benefit will expand to include:

  • 140 works of visual art donated by 140 lesbian artists.
  • 140 tickets will be sold to community members interested in purchasing a work of art.
  • Those not wishing to purchase artwork, but who wish to attend the event will be able to purchase general admission tickets for a suggested donation.
  • Every work of art donated will be claimed by a ticket buyer; each ticket buyer will leave with an original work of art.
  • The gallery will be open to the public on Saturday prior to the start of the benefit at 4:00.
  • The benefit will consist of the raffle of the works and a reception hosted by Alexander Gray Associates.
  • A publicity campaign that will include PR from both Alexander Gray Associates and the Lesbian Herstory Archives.
  • Artists, curators, gallerists, collectors, and art lovers will be present.

Artists who wish to participate in this curated open call should be aware of the following:

  • Participating artists should identify as lesbians.
  • Artists wishing to apply may not be enrolled in any undergraduate or graduate programs for art during the fall of 2013.
  • We have a limited number of spots available for open call artists, so we will be curating the open call.
  • Artists are responsible for the cost of shipping or delivering the work they wish to donate to a location in downtown Manhattan (details will be sent to curated artists).
  • Works should be between 8×10 and 14×14 inches and able to be hung on a wall.

Below is the application form for the open call. In addition to giving us some basic information about yourself, we are asking each artists to submit 3 work sample images, the first of which should be an image of the work you are proposing to donate.

All applications are due by 11.59pm on Friday, September 13, 2013.
