QWOCMAP: “We want to let you know more about our Festival Focus, “I Do AND I Don’t: LGBTQ People of Color and Same-Sex Marriage”. The country has been in an uproar over the legalization of same-sex marriage and the codification of oppression. As different states went to the ballots, many attempted to hide under the shallow waters of bigotry, which then transformed into torrents of outright hatred.

Yet this deluge came up against the determined voices and passion of all of us who believe in freedom. Not only did we demand access to the governmental recognition of our unions and families, we also showed the world that this fight is about more than legislation, it’s about a desire for what many simply call: social justice and human rights.

We want to take this conversation in a new direction that reflects the complexity, beauty and power of our relationships – romantic, familial, collective.”
