About Dame Ethel Walker
Dame Ethel Walker (1861-1951) was a Scottish lesbian artist, a painter of portraits, flower-pieces, sea-pieces and decorative compositions. Her work shows the influence of Impressionism. In 1900 she became the first woman member of the New English Art Club and it was there that she mainly exhibited during her life. Posthumous her works was among others featured at Queer British Art 1861-1967 at Tate, London UK (2017) and she is included in The Queer Encyclopedia of the Visual Art.
