What is the “thing” with naked bodies in nature?

Sometimes I ask myself: what is the “thing” with naked bodies in nature? The bare frame as a part of the landscape, shaped as and with nature itself?

Why does it feel so fxxing amazing to sink your undressed body into a big black lake, or running into waves hammering the bank? Why is sand between our toes nourishing and rain in our faces not only a sweet reminder of the tears we produce, but also that we are earth and creation?

Grown in her womb, flushed out by the tide, blood, sweat and tears … All the elements present in your birth and then, when we are finally stepping into our lives we leave all this behind.

Here I am. Not only walking into 2021, but also entering the mist/the’dimman’. That liminal space where anything can unfold… included in me and you.

About the Artist

Swedish-born Jannica Honey moved to Edinburgh to study photography after completing a BA in Humanities (anthropology & criminology) at Stockholm University. A significant proportion of her recent work has focused on musicians with her photographs appearing in The Guardian, LA Times, Svenska Dagbladet, The Scotsman, Vogue, Dazed & Confused, Tank & Aesthetica Magazine.

Honey’s latest project, ‘When The Blackbird Sings’ is her most ambitious to date, she based my shooting schedule on the moon & channelled the earth’s natural rhythms into the work, explored her own connection to womanhood & femininity. The art project portrays the multiple aspects of the female cycle through photographs of women and nature (Sweden/Scotland).
