Artist talk: Queer Photographer Cass Bird
[Sorry, the video is no longer available.]
American photographer Cass Bird’s has given an artist talk, which was documented on video (15 min). Here she discusses her photography, which began as an outlet, a replacement for verbal communication. She presents some of her gay portraits and photos of female-headed families, and addresses what is acceptable public appearance for women. Cass finds that there is a lack of role models for the single sex families, which makes family life a very creative space for the families.
This artist talk was a part of an event in conjunction with the exhibition Global Feminisms at the Elizabeth A. Sackler Center, Brooklyn Museum, USA, where feminist artists from more than fifty countries discussed or performed their works in the Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art Forum, March 23-25, 2007.
