Press Release from Aorta
‘Aorta is a hands-on direct action art collective curating the queer, feminist art movement in print and in community spaces. We infiltrate and challenge the mainstream art world with accessible media that actively creates spaces for underrepresented, radical and alternative arts communities. Our main project is Aorta: Radical Arts Magazine, an entirely self-produced and distributed publication that features a diversity of emerging and established queer, female and transgender artists. We commit to bring the perspective of these artists to the broader community through this publication, educational outreach, arts exhibitions and active participation in and organizing of community forums.
We’re busy with issues #4 and #5, juggling some behind-the-scenes shifts, growing all the while, and are looking to expand the numbers, reach, and strength of our collective.
Ideal candidates:
- are invested in political consciousness, creative pursuits, cultural agitation, and art in its myriad of forms
- can commit to a few hours of work per week (at minimum; this fluctuates depending on our production schedule), in addition to bi-weekly meetings
- are excited about grantwriting, art, design & illustration, zine distribution, curating for print and galleries, editing, transcribing, organizing, social networking, etc.’
