Carrie talks about abstraction, her ideas about the creation of a new symbolism around ‘queer’ and ‘change’ in art, and her recent exhibition Carrie Moyer and Sheila Pepe: Tabernacles for Trying Times at Portland Museum of Art, February 7 – August 16, 2020. Video is published by Lesley MFA, June 22, 2020.
Carrie Moyer is a founding faculty member of the faculty of Lesley MFA in Cambridge, USA, when they were based in Boston and known as the Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University. She is now the Director of the MFA program in Studio Art at Hunter College in NY. Carrie Moyer is married to sculptor Sheila Pepe.
Carrie Moyer and Sheila Pepe: Tabernacles for Trying Times is an exhibition that ‘reimagines a familiar form of religious furniture — the tabernacle — as a symbolic location for cultural values such as justice, equality, and knowledge’.
