California to Host First National Queer Performing Arts Summit in August of 2016

First National Queer Performing Arts Summit in August of 2016

Co-presented by the Queer Cultural Center, California LGBT Arts Alliance, City of Oakland and Oakland School for the Arts. Lead funding from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts.

National Queer Performing Arts Summit is a gathering that aims to improve the financial condition of queer performing artists. By facilitating a conversation between queer-identified dance, music, theatre, and interdisciplinary artists and presenters looking to expand their queer performance programs, The Summit will make it easier for queer performing artists and presenters to find each other.

Happening August 2016 in downtown Oakland and in San Francisco, The Summit will explore trends in queer performing arts, define best practices in touring and connect queer performing artists with presenters from across the nation. The 4-day event will feature keynote and plenary speakers, 3 performance showcases, and a multitude of workshops, panels, and networking events.

The Summit is for:

• Queer-identified dancers, theatre and performance artists, musicians.
• Presenters looking to expand queer-specific performances at their performing arts venues.
• Scholars, bloggers, academics, funders and activists interested in queer performing arts.
