Clifford Chance’s Transatlantic Pride Art Show

Clifford Chance, one of the world’s leading law firms, is celebrating Gay Pride and marking the 40th anniversary of the Stonewall riots in New York with a joint art exhibition in its New York and London offices. Following last summer’s successful launch of the transatlantic art show, firms LGTB staff opened this summer’s exhibition June 24 2009 with a reception.

The third annual New York exhibition showcases historical photographs of the gay rights movement over the past 40 years by photojournalist and lesbian activist Bettye Lane. The London exhibition, which is in its second year, features the works of seven gay and lesbian artists: Kerry Andrews, Annie Attridge, Roberto Ekholm, Rotimi Fani-Kayode, Lucia King, Alana Lake with Fayann Smith, and Stuart Mayes.
The London exhibition will be held at Clifford Chance’s in Canary Wharf and will include a video presentation of works simultaneously being exhibited in the firm’s New York office.

Michael Petry, curator of the exhibition and Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), London, added, “I was more than pleased to be involved in this project and was very happy at Clifford Chance’s openness to initiate such an exhibition. I have chosen the work of younger and emerging artists whose works will present a fresh view of the Post-Stonewall LGBT community along with that of Rotimi Fani-Kayode’s important historical works from London in the early 1980’s. Some work is figurative, other abstract or conceptual. As an artist and a gay man, I can only express my great appreciation, and hope that soon more international companies feel open to similar projects.”
