Fontanelle Gallery, Portland, USA Will Be Closing
The lesbian curators Leslie Miller and Jess Jogel will be closing their Fontanelle Gallery in Portland, USA, and they have send me this letter:
Dear Fontanelle Family, Friends, and Allies,
Here we are, January 2010, observing a new decade and it is certainly bringing some big changes! We are sad to announce that our fair establishment, Fontanelle, will be closing at the end of the month. It has been a fabulous year and a half of exhibitions, performances, and fun-filled gatherings of friends like you. We only wish that it didn’t have to end, but between the economy and our young bustling busy lives, we have had to make this difficult decision.
We can’t express our gratitude enough to our Portland art community for embracing our program, spreading the word, and coming downtown for our openings. It has been an amazing experience for us, young artists and entrepreneurs, to stretch our wings and learn more than we ever thought possible. What an honor it has been to be featured in the New York Times, the Oregonian, PORT, Art Focus on KBOO, Portland Mercury, Willamette Week, Sunset Magazine, and many more press outlets that have helped champion our dreams and bring people together at our gallery. We are appreciative to our friends at the New Art Dealers Alliance for believing in us! And we will never be able to thank our friends and family enough for all the love, support, friendship, and advice you have offered during this entire experience.
There will be a CLOSING PARTY at Fontanelle on Friday, January 22nd from 7 to 9pm.
You are cordially invited to come on down and celebrate all that we have accomplished in this short amount of time. There will be celebratory jams provided by DJ Party Martyr, and we’ll have our book, Fontanelle: Year One on sale, documenting our first year of exhibitions, in full color with essays from the artists! Juliana Bright’s lovely exhibition Our Songs of Experience is on view through the end of the month. You really must see it. Juliana is a gem and we are so happy to have her lovely drawings on display.
We hope you can join us for the closing party! We will be going our separate ways, taking on new projects, and forging new ground. It’s a world of opportunity out there! Please keep in touch! Leslie can be reached in the future at lesliejoymiller@gmail.com and Jess at jess_fogel@hotmail.com.
All our love and appreciation,
Leslie & Jess
