This presentation and panel discussion will explore how LGBTQIA and BIPOC artists and activists revolutionized arts funding during the 1980s and early 1990s by challenging the racist, classist, and homophobic underpinnings of SF arts funding structures, with a special emphasis on the history and evolution of the Queer Cultural Center. The panel features writer Jeff Jones and Pam Peniston, two of QCC’s founding members, alongside artists Annie Sprinkle, Beth Stephens, Idris Ackamoor, and Marie Acosta. This archive project is funded by an SFAC Cultural Equity grant.
